The 3rd and final installment of Christmas events ended with a blast last December 18 at Victory Robinson’s Pioneer. It was fully attended by support groups for the sake of 80 cancer patients who were able to come. 92 U! volunteers came wearing yellow- to show support on cancer together with the kid’s parents, staff of Cancer Warriors Foundation and of course sponsors. 320 people were there! WOW!
The much awaited event started early at 10AM to give way to a full schedule of activities. Our founder, Kuya Harvard and president, Ate Jo-e headed the program and hosted as well. It was their first tandem on stage.
The first activity was a warm game called “bahay, baboy, bagyo. The goal is to get to know each other more by mixing them up. The game is like the boat is sinking with a twist. You need to secure the baboy, which are the kids, by forming a bahay made up of the parents, volunteers and sponsors.
The most integral part followed next. We asked all the volunteers to partner themselves with the families. Everyone had a partner since there were more than enough Ate or Kuya that went. Throughout the event, we wanted them to share life together.
We had the founder of Cancer Warriors Foundation, James Auste who explained briefly the video shown about their advocacy. He asked for support and stated that the reason that cancer kills, is primarily because the families can afford medicine and treatment. U! Happy Events was able to raise Php 125,000 worth of support, with Php 65,680 was given as cash donation.
A song number by Janina, the daughter of our Victory Pastor, Pastor Paolo was next. She moved the audience by songs on hope and love. A great reminder for the entire activity. The usual magic entertainment followed as everyone took their meals. Thanks to Congo Grille for the food for the families.
While the kids together with their support group have fun with the games set-up, Cancer Warriors went ahead and gave away the gifts they were able to get from their sponsors. Some of the kids were even given their wish. So some went home with their new bikes, new toys and even new clothes! Shell also gave away their Toy Story 3 Toys to the kids.
There were inflatbles, face paint and circus games set-up for the kids. “We wanted them to experience these type of fun despite their condition”, says Kuya Harvard. He adds, “its pure happiness to see them just all excited for these activites!”
The day ended with more pictures and of course hugs, hand shakes and good byes as every group was blessed that day!
Thank U! for everyone who took part. Thanks to Shell for partnering with us for 3 great events for the month of December! We look forward for future partnership!
