KEYSTONE ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE

We assist needy pediatric cancer patients by providing maintenance medicines and chemotherapy drugs.

To do this, our volunteer/s coordinates with a cancer physician, a pediatric oncologist, who has indigent patients. The parent of the needy patient fills out a form and is also advised to submit the following:

1. clinical abstract and treatment protocol
2. social case study
3. hand-written request for assistance with reason why assistance is needed
4. picture of patient

Upon approval of the request for assistance, the patient’s parent is notified and asked to submit a monthly prescription of medicines and chemotherapy drugs to our volunteer. The volunteer then requests these medicines from CWF-Manila which, in turn, sends medicines available. The medicines are then given to the patient when they go to the physician for check up.

Monitoring and Accountability

As volunteers, we operate on the basis of trust. We are, however, accountable to donors who unselfishly shared their resources so others can benefit. As such, this trust must be preserved by being able to account for the resources received and dispensed. We ask our beneficiaries no less.

Hence, beneficiaries are required to maintain a notebook where they list down the medicines and drugs they receive, including the quantity. This serves as their monitoring and accountability record.

The beneficiary is also encouraged to seek additional source of assistance, if needed, as CWF can extend limited assistance.

Our name tells our story: Cancer Warriors Foundation Inc promotes, protects and defends the right of children and adolescents with cancer, cancer survivors and their families.

CWFI is a Philippine based patient support organization for families of children with cancer. It provides financial assistance for early diagnosis, timely treatment and appropriate follow up care. It engages and empowers parents, caregivers and support networks of the kids through education and learning sessions integrated into monthly family meetings.

We STAND UP and SPEAK OUT for them so they can have access to the best possible treatment and care, wherever they may be.

We ADVOCATE, so that there will be available, affordable, good quality childhood cancer drugs and medication. Also, to provide access to adequate social health insurance coverage, competent and caring health workers (both professionals and community volunteers), robust health systems, safe and quality treatment, follow up care and better opportunities for childhood cancer survivors.

For 2015, CWFI helped push advocacy for the review and revision of Z package for leukemia patients (ALL) so that numerous needy children and adolescents not eligible for coverage will be included. It also helped advocate for inclusion of retinoblastoma and osteosarcoma in the Z package. It continues to advocate for a review of the delisting of kids with cancer from PWD discount coverage. It also initiated enrollment of CWFI assisted families (initially in Batangas) in Phil health, to reduce their costs of treatment and follow up care.  It continues to provide chemo and maintenance drugs to kids with cancer as well as support for diagnostic tests and blood products.
