July 23, 2010. The Cancer Warriors Foundation held another Barangay Health Workers Forum on Cancer Awareness at the St. Elizabeth Hospital in General Santos City.

Our team started from Davao City at 7:00 o’clock and reached General Santos City before 11:00. After a quick coordination with the hosts and a check at the venue at St. Elizabeth Hospital, we had lunch at Robinson’s.  By 2:00pm, the forum started with some 43 barangay health workers from 26 barangays in the city.

Tony Veneracion, administrator of St Elizabeth Hospital, welcomed the participants and guests.  City Health Officer, Dr. Julius Makilang, gave a pep talk to the barangay health workers.  Cancer Warriors Foundation Executive Director, James Auste, gave a background of the forum and talked about the foundation. Dr. Mae Dolendo, pediatrician-oncologist of Southern Philippines Medical Center in Davao City gave a lecture on “Signs and Symptoms of Childhood Cancer” and answered questions fielded by the health workers.  Dr. Dolendo also established the referral system of possible cancer illness from barangay health workers to specialists for proper diagnosis.

Dr. Caksy Domingo, a physician based in the City, coordinated the forum.
